My writer name is Ellise Ramos – the name I was born with. But I recently changed my name to Harmony van der Schyff after getting married. I can say a lot of things about this decision – such as never being able to identify with my birth name, a traumatic childhood I want to forget, or a complete shedding of my old identity, but really, it’s a perk that came with having to change my last name when I got married anyway, so why not change the whole thing?
That confusing tidbit aside, as all my published work is under Ellise Ramos, this is the pseudonym I will continue writing under. I am 30-something years old, Toronto-based, and currently undergoing motherhood with the best partner there is.
On my spare time though, when I am not writing, holding writing workshops or taking care of my son, I am exploring the world of vintage jewellery by traveling to estate sales and auction sites across Ontario. I research each piece's history, test it for authenticity and restore them (if needed) as a side hustle, and second mini-passion. You can shop my collection here: Auction Hunters Designs.
I have Bipolar Disorder I, ADHD and PTSD, and have decided to write about my journey through motherhood while balancing the hand I've been dealt with, so to speak. I hope that through this, I am able to provide a resource for the other mothers out there who are going through the same crazy journey, while dealing with mental health at the same time.

I love giving back to my community. In my free time, I volunteer with the Writers Collective of Canada through leading writing workshops at the 519 and the Progress Place. I also love hearing from you, my readers, and how my writing influenced yours, and understand how we can better support each other. So please don't hesitate to contact me if you want to connect!
Here is a link to the weekly writing workshop I hold with my co-facilitator, Maria for the Writers Collective. We hold it every Sunday from 11 am to 1 pm through Zoom, and it's free! We hope to see you there!
